Therapy for Parents

Parenting is hard. Parenting while dealing with mental health concerns (for you and/or your child) can be even harder! We provide several evidenced based options to support you when your parenting journey is running up against the obstacles of mental health.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human services 33% of parents report feeling high levels of stress compared to only 20% of other adults. And 48% of parents say most day’s their stress is overwhelming compared to only 26% of other adults. And it makes sense, right? After all, most parents have generally the same types of stress of most adults with the added stress that parenting brings.

How Can Therapy Help?

Individual Therapy and Support

Individual therapy can be a great way to get support, encouragement, learn coping skills, or engage in problem solving to address many concerns related to parenting. Sometimes parents may even be carrying around the weight of additional mental health concerns unrelated to parenting that make parenting feel harder or keep the parent from parenting the way they would like to be parenting. Many traditional forms of individual therapy can start to help unburden a parent and help them move in the direction of effective changes to better themselves, their children, and their family.

Parenting Based Interventions

There are also several parenting based interventions and modalities that can help address some of the unique challenges of parenting. Many of these modalities relate to the child or children in the home and actually are treating a mental health concern that they (the child) are experiencing, but by working either exclusively with the parents or in conjunction with the parents. Like all of the modalities we offer at The Artemis Center for Guidance, these are evidenced based and effective modes of treatment for many parents and families.

Here are a few of the specific modalities we offer or that inform our care of you and your child:

There is not one single modality of therapy that is best for teens. Just like for adults, it comes down to the unique needs, presenting concerns, and preferences of the teen to determine what type of therapy will work best. The good thing is that most there is a wide range of evidenced based and effective modalities for teens. And our team of highly trained clinicians are ready to help support your teen with many of these effective modalities.
