Joya Blount,
MA, LPC
Joya Blount is a Licensed Professional Counselor in New Jersey. Joya earned her Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from Stockton University, where she also completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She has experience providing therapy to children, adolescents, and adults navigating a variety of emotional and mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Joya has also worked extensively with teenagers diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, supporting them in navigating social situations, friendships, relationships, and the overall challenges of adolescence.
While person-centered therapy serves as the foundation of her work, Joya pulls from a variety of evidence-based and developmentally appropriate approaches to best meet each client’s unique needs. Her therapeutic style integrates modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and Play Therapy. Joya believes therapy should never be “one size fits all” and works collaboratively to tailor treatment to each individual client.
Joya believes that clients are “the captain of their own ship,” while she serves as a supportive guide throughout the therapeutic process. She values building a genuine, trusting therapeutic relationship and believes that empathy, authenticity, and meeting clients where they are emotionally is essential to meaningful growth and healing.
“Counseling includes constantly striving to have a special therapeutic relationship with clients where they are comfortable with working through any hardships as a team. Mental health is not a destination, but it is a process.”
